Live communications
Jabber
NOOSS has a jabber server.
The server is creatively named jabber.nooss.org.
There are many Jabber clients that can be used to connect to the server. Most Linux and *BSD distributions included them, but Gaim and Psi seem to get the best response from people. Your mileage my vary.
We have created a Linux conference room, available at linux@conference.jabber.nooss.org.
jabber.nooss.org allows server to server communication between other jabber servers. If you currently have a jabber account on another server, you should be able to join the conference rooms on conference.jabber.nooss.org and talk to users that have NOOSS jabber accounts.
FYI: If you have a Google Mail (gmail.com) address, then you have a Google Talk account, which is your gmail address. Google Talk's client does not support conference rooms, but you can configure many jabber clients to connect to Google Talk. If that client supports group chats, you can use your Google Talk account to connect.
If you need a jabber server account, you can add (or register in jabber speak) an account on jabber.nooss.org.
If you need any help getting to the jabber server, configuring your clients, or joining the group chat just send an email to the NOOSS Talk Mailing List.
To do for this page:
- Add configuration information for various clients.
- Describe the IM transports available.
Add information about the MyTurl bot that lives on the channel.
